Day 78

78/365

Balancing subject and background light.

This is a big challenge that many photographers deal with is finding a way to balance the exposure of a bright sky with the exposure of a subject standing in front of the sky.  This can be difficult because the difference in exposure levels between the sky and subject .Sometimes the differences can be quite dramatic.

1) what I leaned is that you need aether expose for the subject and let the background blow out..No amount of in-camera adjustments will fix a scene with such a wide range in light values.

2)  or you can expose for the background  and compensate for the lower light levels on the subject adding artificial light such as a fill flash, or a reflector..

3)Another option will be to use a graduated neutral density filter or manipulating the image in post. Sometimes it just better to get pictures right in camera and rely less in post.

4) bracketing exposures is another method, but its a little bit complicated because you need a tripod and if you are photographing a family events you need a lot of pictures..perhaps you could use this method if you shooting just a few pictures, plus it is a time consuming because all the post time involved.

Expose for the background..eggs are a little underexposure....

Blown out background, sometimes you loose details in the background when this happened.
